USDAN CENTER FOR CREATIVE & PERFORMING ARTS
Wheatley Heights, New York
This 100 plus acre creative arts summer camp accommodates a
daily flow of 1,700 youth. Restoration incorporates woodland
stewardship with road and path surfacing, trail building, storm
drainage, and universal access. Stewardship includes removal of
invasive species, restorative plantings incorporating native oak,
hickory and blueberry woods as well as grass, wildflower and
fern meadows. Timber bridges and steps aid in traversing the
natural topography. Siting of particular vegetation and seating
opportunities offers inspiration and outdoor classrooms for the
camp’s environmental education program.
